It is written by Carla Barnhill and illustrated by Elena Kucharik. Though we read an age appropriate Bible daily with our 3 year old, I know that daily application is not our strong point. This does not take place of Bible reading, but supplements it, just like devotions do for adults. The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 is what you would expect for a devotional for young children. Each day's reading begins with a Scripture verse followed by a short reading. It ends with a short prayer rhyme (though they don't always begin by addressing God or end with Amen). The January devotion's verse and application begins in Genesis, and it continues in Biblical order, ending with Revelation in December. This is short enough to keep my three year old's attention. It is illustrated with adorable Little Blessings children throughout by Elena Kucharik, the artist for Care Bears. For each day of the year, there is a short verse followed by a paragraph emphasizing how the Bible, God and Jesus fit into a child's life. This is followed by a two line rhyming poem. I, along with my 2 children, ages three and five, find this devotional charming and very appropriate. The daily readings are the right length for little ones and it applies to their world. The girls look forward to reading it each day. It is a wonderful way to share the bible with your children. We also love the illustrations. The children in the illustrations all have different looks, from color of hair, to color of skin, or race. Any child who reads this will feel comfortable. I also like the different colors/races because it helps expose my... Having two toddlers, I took the opportunity to review The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 immediately when it was offered. What an awesome devotional! The One Year Devotions for Preschoolers 2 has a devotion for each day of the year. So you can start anytime of the year and not miss a thing! Each devotion is short, sweet and to the point. Kids at this age need to hear and be taught the word of God, but their attention span is still so short. The way that Barnhill has written so that even the little member of your family can begin to understand God's word is amazing. She can bring the devotion to a scripture focus in a few short paragraphs and the pictures go perfectly and are beautiful. This is a great devotional for little ones. The perfect gift for a baby shower or for a first birthday! It's a gift that will continue to give for... Read more |
